Great Children’s books for Summer reading
I can remember the excitement I would get when R.I.F (Reading Is Fundamental) would be at school. I seriously couldn’t even sleep the night before. Just thinking about all the choices I could look through and pick out the ONE book that would be mine forever.
I was always a book lover and a good student. Some of my teachers would call me up to their desk before our class would go to the library to choose books. They would smile and tell me that I could go a full five minutes ahead. I would walk so fast down to the library. I would analyze the cover, open up the book in the middle and read a few pages just to see if the book moved me. Step by step, bookshelf after bookshelf I would glide my tiny hands over these gateways to my imagination and be at peace.
I have ALWAYS loved books, when I found out five years ago I was expecting my first I KNEW he had to have an amazing book collection. I wanted to open up his mind to far away places, new people and cultures, silly stories and life lessons.

Books have a way of reaching our hearts and I will forever be grateful for the ones that have been there for me growing up. Each child is different and unique and so are their likes. When it comes to books, you can always find something that uniquely will touch your child and help with anything they are going through or just make them laugh.
I try very hard to find diverse books for my two children. It's really important to me that they cultivate a love of reading as well as getting into the habit to read. Summer is just around the corner and that means plenty of free time for kids. Make it a goal to have them sit down or you read to them 10-15 min a day. The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) is a GREAT resource to find some summer books to read. They list books from Birth - 8th grade
