Nailed It!

Netflix debut a new show over the weekend. I LOVE watching cooking and baking shows so when I saw the trailer I KNEW I had to check this one out. The show is called Nailed It and the host is one of my favorites. Nicole Byer( I fell in love with her a few years ago when she was on the show girl code.)
My husband and I binge watched this show. There are only six episodes so it was pretty easy. When I tell you we cried laughing...it was so hilarious to see the recreations that these amateur bakers did.
Our four year old watched the last two episodes with us and he asked if we could make a cake. My husband and I have never made a cake or buttercream icing from scratch. We looked up a recipe and decided that we will recreate a cake we find online.
Our son decided on a minion cake. As we waited for the cakes to bake I got on the ball and made the decorations for the cake out of fondant.
I have NEVER made anything with fondant so I am so thankful to the may youtube tutorials I watched to see how to handle it. We knew that we didn't want the entire cake to be covered in fondant so we saved the buttercream for the base and made sure it was as smooth as we could get it.
Once we did a layer of buttercream we put the cake in the freezer for about 10-15min to harden so we could then add fondant. Not only did we NAIL the finished product, it also tastes good too.
I loved this family project that we did. What are some of your favorite projects to do? Let me know in the comments below and don't forget to check out the show Nailed it on Netflix
