Shea Moisture in Hot Water

Today Shea Moisture rolled out their new commercial under their new slogan #everybodygetslove and received some backlash. They didn't show anyone with 4a-c hair and people are up in arms about it. While I understand why people are upset at the lack or representation in the commercial I am not one to boycott this brand.

When I first became natural over five years ago I had no idea where to turn to. Pantene was my go to but they only had a line for black women with chemically treated hair and it was so drying. I searched youtube and found out about Shea Moisture and decided to give it a try. I fell in love with it.  I love that these products have become inclusive and people with MANY different textures can use this brand. My daughter and I have different textures but we can still use the same brand and that means a lot to me because I know and trust this brand for my hair.

This commercial I feel was just a way for them to try and bring in new clientele that they haven't reached yet. I cab't fault them in that. Now if this was the ONLY commercial they they released I would have been like HOLD UP! what about the people who made you who you are as a company. However, when they rolled out their new advertising strategy with #everybodygetslove they made sure that we were represented and beautifully I might add.

This commercial was 7 months ago and because we live in a microwave society sometimes its easy to forget things that happened 2 min ago let alone 7 months ago. We all lead busy lives. I honestly think that this was not a big issue and this touches on the subject of being so quick to turn our backs on black owned businesses. This company is STILL run by a black family and they make sure they cater to the black community. When they choose their ambassadors to the brands they make sure that black people are their representative( My family was chosen as a brand ambassador but believe me this in NO way makes me stand up for them based of just that)

This is a company I believe in and I have used for over 5 years. I didn't see this much backlash when Pantene made a commercial that was obviously catering to a black audience when in fact the product didn't start out that way.

I personally will continue to use this brand for myself and for my family
